About Curly Bob & Vanbear

What’s in a Name?

I have painted for several years now under the “nom de brosse” of “Aluitios Vanbear.”

When I opened my EBay account I adopted the online name of Vanbear7 for admin reasons. It is ONLY under this name that my work can be found on EBay.

However when searching for my work in my Etsy UK shop just look under “Curly Bobs Art Emporium

Mission Statement

When I started using the Internet, I was advised not to become too serious. Therefore, I decided to  use the above name and do something different, if not unique, by having a bear as a manager. I have been very surprised at the warm welcome Curly Bob has received, as shown by his growing Internet following on Twitter, Flickr,  Facebook, and Pinterest.

Together we have embarked on a journey to raise the profile of my work.  I am well aware there could be some degree of prejudice against an artist being managed by a bear but I think that would be missing the point somewhat.

Our aim is a simple one which is to enjoy  art. If we can brighten up somebody’s day, if only for a minute, with my paintings, then we have succeeded. If you don’t wish to do that then why bother?

I hope you will find something of interest in my work.

What I Do

I used to paint in oils but was forced to give them up for health reasons. I now work mainly in acrylics and  mixed media. I love experimenting with various textures, colours and  finishes.

I have always been interested in bright colours. During  holidays in Provence, France, I became very interested in the palette used there by many painters, including Van Gogh and Cezanne.  I began to explore using these colours in local scenes and other beautiful landscapes in the U.K. and beyond. My aim is to create these landscapes and other subjects, sometimes in an abstract manner, often using different textures.

I have had 3 solo exhibitions, one of which is ongoing at my G.P. Surgery. Feedback from them has been very positive with several sales. The use of a brighter palette of colours has proved particularly stimulating.

Regardless of whether you buy any of my work, any feedback whatsoever about it would be very welcome via vanbear7@gmail.com, vanbear@live.com or vanbear@btinternet.com

I always reply to emails and comments posted on Facebook whenever I am not painting!
